Frequently Asked Questions About Reiki
Is Reiki the same as a massage?
Reiki is not the same as a massage although both may be relaxing and de-stressing. Reiki, however, does not require the use of manipulation, lotions, or oils and disrobing is never required. Many massage therapists learn Reiki so that they can combine the many benefits with massage.
What will Reiki do for me if I do not have health problems?
Regular Reiki treatments will help to build your immune system, bring a greater level of inner peace, insights into problems, and ultimately build consciousness. Life matters will be viewed with a clearer vision and less tension.
The goal of Reiki is to help restore the body's energy balance and enhance its natural ability to heal itself

What is Reiki?
Reiki (Pronounced RAY-KEY) Reiki is an ancient practice of therapeutic touch that relaxes and de-stresses as it brings
an individual's body to a more balanced state supporting the functioning of the immune system and relieving many
symptoms of illness.

How does Reiki work?
Reiki is about balance. We are alive because life force is flowing through us. Life force flows within the physical body though centers called chakras, and along pathways called meridians. It also flows around us in an electro-magnetic field called the aura.
Life force nourishes the organs and cells of the body, supporting them in their vital functions. The life force is responsive to thoughts and feelings. It becomes disrupted when we accept, either consciously or unconsciously, negative thoughts or feelings about ourselves. These negative thoughts and feelings attach themselves to the energy field and cause a disruption in the flow of life force. This diminishes the vital function of the organs and cells of the physical body.
In western medicine we often treat the symptom rather than the cause of the dis-ease in our bodies. Reiki is very eastern in it's approach to healing. Most of our ills have a root cause in an emotional, physical, or mental block in our body. By helping the body's energy to realign itself properly, Reiki releases these "knots", freeing us of the physical effects caused by them.

What are the Benefits of Reiki?
Relax
In today's world of increasing speed of communication, we spend much of our time racing to keep up. True relaxation is a lost art, and the stress we live with as a result takes a toll on our health. The deep relaxation response experienced during a Reiki session strengthens the immune system and promotes healing in our physical bodies.
Replenish
Reiki relieves physical and emotional stress, allowing the release of unneccessary worries and doubts. Problems are just blocked energies, and during a Reiki session those blockages are removed allowing a sense of peace and well-being to occur. Proper energy flow is restored allowing emotional balance to return.
Rejuvinate
Reiki works with your body's own Aura Blueprint of perfect health, helping your own energy align itself to heal and strengthen your body. During the session, energy is absorbed by the body where it needs it. Many people report that they feel refreshed and renewed following their Reiki session, as if they had 3-4 hours of sleep.

Is Reiki a religion or does it have a religious doctrine?
While Reiki is spiritual in nature it is not a religion. It has no dogma, and there is nothing you must believe in order to learn, use, or receive Reiki. In fact, Reiki is not dependent on belief at all and will work whether you believe in it or not. Reiki does not infringe on anyone's religious beliefs. Most Reiki Practitioners, especially teachers, have a "spiritual" outlook in their day to day lives. In my experience, it is rare to incorporate Reiki into your life and not have it change or supplement your view of the universe.

What does Reiki feel like?
Reiki is an individualized experience. Some report feeling warmth, coolness, light vibrations, or just relaxation. Feelings of deep relaxation are generally felt by all. In addition, many feel a wonderful glowing radiance that flows through and surrounds the them. As the Reiki energy encourages one to let go of all tension, anxiety, fear or other negative feelings a state of peace and well-being is experienced.Whatever your personal experience it will be a positive one.At the end of the treatment, one feels refreshed with a more positive, balanced outlook and re-newed energy. This experience of relaxation is a wonderful gift to give to "self" or anyone you care about.

What does a Reiki session consist of?
A Reiki treatment session lasts for about one-hour and is useful for specific healing or general relaxation. The client remains fully clothed at all times as the practitioner gently lays her hands on the head, torso, legs, and feet of the client, allowing Reiki energy to flow through her palms. Reiki always works toward your highest good.

Can I continue with my chiropractic visits and still have Reiki?
Yes, you can continue with chiropractic visits while receiving Reiki. Reiki supports doctor/patient relationships and is often added to other modalities for the relaxing benefits. Many Chiropractors have a Reiki Practitioner in the office in case they come across a patient that cannot relax to fully receive the benefit of the adjustment/alignment process.

Is Reiki safe?
Yes, Reiki is safe and gentle for all since a practitioner does not manipulate, diagnose nor prescribe medication. The energy that flows from the Reiki practitioner's hands always works toward the highest good of both the practitioner and the recipient, and is therefore completely safe. There are no medical contraindications to Reiki, and it can be used to enhance any other medical or alternative therapy.
Reiki does not replace the care provided by health care professionals. You are strongly encouraged to continue seeing your health care providers and following their recommendations in conjunction with Reiki treatments.
